Attendance Policy and Make-up Work

Attendance Policy and Make-up Work

Attendance Requirements: Students are required to attend all lectures, labs, and externship placements punctually. Instructors will keep accurate records of attendance for both evening classes and the morning and afternoon sessions of day classes. Tardiness is defined as arriving after the scheduled start time for class or after a break. Accumulating five instances of tardiness will be equivalent to one absence.

Missed Tests: All tests missed due to absence must be taken on the student's first day back after their absence.

Make-up Work Policy: Make-up work is limited to no more than 5% of the total course hours for any program. The conditions for make-up work are as follows:

  1. Supervision: The work must be supervised by an instructor qualified for the class being made up.
  2. Competence: The student must demonstrate a level of knowledge or competence equivalent to that expected of a student who attended the scheduled class session.
  3. Timing: Make-up work must be completed within two weeks of the end of the grading period during which the absence occurred.
  4. Documentation: The school must document the completion of make-up work, noting the date, time, duration, and supervising instructor.
  5. Student Acknowledgment: The student must sign and date a form acknowledging the make-up session.

Externship Make-up Hours: Make-up for missed externship hours must be coordinated with the externship site supervisor. Make-up time during an externship is capped at 10 hours, which may be reduced if extensive supervised make-up work was required earlier in the term.

Attendance Probation and Termination: A student who misses more than 10% of the total class hours will be placed on attendance probation, with conditions set by the school director. Enrollment will be terminated if a student is absent for more than 20% (41 hours) of the program's class hours. A student whose enrollment is terminated due to unsatisfactory attendance may reenroll on attendance probation in a subsequent term within the next 12 months. This reenrollment does not affect the school’s refund policy. If a reenrolled student on attendance probation again misses more than 20% of class hours, their enrollment will be terminated permanently, and they will not be eligible for readmission to the program.

Attendance and Refunds: Graduate America will not terminate a student’s enrollment for attendance reasons at a point where a refund would no longer be due under the approved refund policy.
